The USS Carney, a U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyer, was sent to the Red Sea along with other U.S. destroyers to deter the Houthis and other groups from getting involved in the Israel-Hamas War. For the past six months, Iranian-backed militia groups held off from launching attacks against American troops in Iraq and Syria. But attacks have suddenly resumed as the conflict in Gaza escalates.
